World champion Viswanathan Anand moved up a notch in world rankings to occupy the fourth spot in the latest list released on Saturday. Anand collected three points from 18 rated games during the past one month to reach a rating of 2,786.
Norway’s Magnus Carlsen, challenger to Anand in the World Championship title-match in November, remained at the top, well ahead of Armenia’s Levon Aronian and Russia’s Vladimir Kramnik. Carlsen lost four points from nine games since May 1 for a rating of 2,864.
Among the Indians, there was no change in the rankings of the leading players. However, second-placed P. Hari Krishna lost 22 points from just 10 games to slip to 2,680 and third-placed K. Sasikiran dropped nine points from 14 games to be 2,660.
Among the women, third-placed Mary Ann Gomes crossed the 2,400-mark for the first time in her career. She matched Tania Sachdev’s 2,408 after gaining 21 points on her way to the third spot in the recent Asian championship.
